Hana School is working together with Ma Ka Hana Ka ‘Ike to bring valuable lessons to the students and the community.

Ma Ka Hana Ka ‘Ike is a local nonprofit that has been helping out in Hana for a couple of decades, by teaching students skills in the building/construction trade, and also in agriculture/food preparation.  The kids learn to grow food, harvest the items, and prepare/serve them as school meals.  The net result is such a benefit to the community that is serves as a model for other schools and towns.

Hana School has classes from preschool to 12th grade and also employs recent graduates in the apprentice program.  The aim is to teach the students about self sufficiency and how to create a more sustainable community that’s not so reliant on imported foods.
