Maui ranchers help to feed our community.
The pandemic has affected everyone on Maui, and some more than others. Farmers and ranchers who used to supply food to restaurants have had to switch gears, while local consumers have heard troublesome stories of impending food shortages. Lucky for us, the CARES Act has offered help with funding for such an emergency. Mayor Victorino has connected some Maui cattle ranchers with some non-profit agencies to ensure that nobody is going hungry. Every week a shipment of locally produced ground beef will be distributed to those in need. We have a lot of agricultural resources here on the island, and they are going to a good cause.
The program plans to run through November, with help from Decoites Packing House, Diamond B Ranch, and Feed My Sheep. Read the full story in the Maui News HERE.
I’ve also noticed that Maui Cattle Company has been offering “born and grazed” Maui ground beef for sale in bulk directly to the public, at drive-up events. You can learn more on their Facebook page.
